Police recover illegal firearm, ammo

(Kaieteur News) – Police in Regional Division #4’A’ on Tuesday seized an unlicensed firearm and ammunition when they intercepted a man on a scooter in Georgetown.

According to a police release, on Tuesday at about 00:10 hrs ranks on a police operation intercepted a 40-year-old security guard who was driving a motor scooter along Church Street.

A search of his person revealed a Glock 17 pistol, along with a magazine containing seven live 9mm rounds and one spent shell. When questioned, the suspect admitted that he was not the holder of a firearm licence. He was then cautioned, arrested and escorted to the Kitty Police Station, where the firearm, ammunition and spent shell were photographed, marked, sealed and lodged. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
