A 63-year-old man from Perseverance, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) is under investigation after police discovered a .45 pistol and ammunition concealed inside a ceiling light fixture at his home on Saturday. According to police, at about 10:30h on Saturday, ranks from Regional Police Division No 2, led by a senior officer, went to the residence of the man, also known as “Monkey Harry,” after receiving information that prompted a search of the premises. Police said the man was found sitting in his living room and was informed of the purpose of the visit. He subsequently consented to a search of his home for narcotics, firearms and ammunition. During the operation, a detective sergeant searched a bedroom located in the north-eastern section of the house. While examining a ceiling light fixture, the officer discovered a white T-shirt concealed inside. Wrapped in the shirt was a gold, black and silver-coloured .45 Colt pistol, along with a magazine containing seven matching live .45 rounds of ammunition.
Investigators noted that part of the firearm’s serial number appeared to have been tampered with. Police said the man admitted ownership of the firearm and ammunition. He reportedly told ranks, “Me get robbed three times, me get it for my protection.” The suspect was taken into custody and escorted to the Anna Regina Police Station along with the firearm and ammunition.
Investigations are continuing.
