Venezuelan woman facing charges after making false report about newborn child

A 23-year-old Venezuelan woman is due in court after police say she falsely reported finding an abandoned newborn in South Oropouche, when investigators concluded the baby was actually her own child. She faces charges of wasting police time and cruelty to a child, while the baby remains in the care of the Children’s Authority.

Missing man found dead

Missing Piparo resident Nelvin Ali, 57, was found dead yesterday in the Dindial Settlement area after a search by the Hunters’ Search and Rescue Team. The group said his body was covered with bamboo and had his hands bound and a belt around his neck, while police were still processing the scene late yesterday.

Man ambushed, killed in Woodbrook

A shooting near Adam Smith Park in Woodbrook early yesterday left Randall Ash dead and Justin McGurk injured. Police said a gunman approached the two men around 12:35 a.m. and opened fire; Ash later died at St James Medical Complex, while McGurk was taken to Port of Spain General Hospital. The motive is still unknown.
