Police have arrested a 25-year-old auto technician after a Glock 19 pistol and four matching rounds of ammunition were found concealed beneath the driver’s seat of a motor car at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, early Sunday morning. Police said the firearm was discovered at about 00:30h on Sunday, after ranks on patrol duty observed a motor car travelling along the Good Hope Railway Embankment. The vehicle was stopped in the vicinity of the Lusignan Health Centre, where ranks contacted the driver, who was the lone occupant. A search of the vehicle was conducted in the driver’s presence, during which ranks allegedly found a Glock 19 pistol concealed beneath the driver’s seat. The firearm contained a magazine with four matching live rounds of ammunition. The Lusignan resident told police that he is not the holder of a firearm licence. He was arrested and taken to the Vigilance Police Station along with the firearm, ammunition and motor car, all of which were lodged pending further investigations. The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
