A police officer was assaulted by an armed man while driving in the Coalmine area on Friday evening. The suspect, a 25-year-old man, has been arrested.
At around 9:35 p.m., the officer returned to the Sangre Grande Police Station with clothing covered in blood and injuries to his face, head, shoulder, and hand.
The officer reported that while driving his white H100 vehicle toward his home, he was stopped by the suspect, who requested a lift to another area. The officer allowed the man into his vehicle. Near a Hindu temple, the suspect pulled a chopper, announced a hold-up, and struck the officer multiple times. The officer sustained several injuries, but he was able to escape and drive to the police station.
