A courier was robbed at gunpoint in Sangre Grande on Tuesday afternoon, but the suspect fled after an off-duty police officer intervened.
Police reported that around 4:40 pm, the 31-year-old courier was sitting in his silver Nissan Navara on Guaico Tamana Road, awaiting a delivery, when a tall, slim man pointed a firearm at him and demanded cash. The victim handed over $5,590 , and a fight broke out when he tried to hold the suspect’s hand.
An off-duty police officer passing by intervened, causing the suspect to drop the weapon and flee. The officer secured the firearm and accompanied the victim to the Sangre Grande Police Station, where it was handed over to CID. The weapon was identified as a black and silver Beretta .380 pistol with four rounds of ammunition.
