A TAXI driver was assaulted, robbed and left stranded after his vehicle was stolen during a late-night robbery in Couva on Saturday.
Police said the 60-year-old man was plying for hire around 10.15 p.m. when he stopped along Calcutta Road No. 1, Mc Bean, at the corner of Sancho Trace, to drop off a passenger.
According to investigators, a man who was seated in the right rear seat suddenly attacked the driver, striking him several times to the head before pointing a firearm at him and announcing a robbery.
