A 63-year-old private hire (PH) driver was robbed at gunpoint and injured on Thursday afternoon in Couva, but quick police response led to the arrest of five suspects shortly after the incident.
The victim, of Orange Field Road, Carapichaima, was operating his Nissan B13 around 3p.m., when two men posing as passengers approached him near Backstage Bar at Isaac Junction, Southern Main Road. The men requested a drop-off to Milton Road, Couva.
Upon arrival at the destination, one of the suspects seated in the front allegedly pulled a firearm and announced a robbery, demanding valuables. Fearing for his life, Collins was relieved of a gold chain valued at $11,000. A struggle followed, during which the driver was injured. Collins managed to escape on foot, running westward from the scene.
