Police in Morvant responded to a pre-dawn burglary at a Barataria residence that escalated into the killing of one suspect by police.
Around 3:10 a.m. on Thursday, two men were returning home when they were confronted by a group of seven armed men. The intruders forced the victims into the house, assaulted them, and demanded cash and valuables. Several family members present were also robbed of electronic devices, cash, jewelry, and gaming consoles. The suspects fled through a window.
Police responding to the scene observed a group of men running into a drain. While attempting to apprehend them, officers encountered one man who pointed a firearm at them. A corporal discharged his service pistol and a constable fired his service rifle.
