RURAL and Local Government Minister Khadijah Ameen says People’s National Movement (PNM) local government representatives were repeatedly invited to participate in consultations and make written submissions on proposed reforms but failed to do so.
Ameen made the disclosure as she piloted what she described as the “historic” Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the House of Representatives yesterday.
She said the Government had been working on the changes since a committee was established in August 2025, rejecting anticipated claims from the Opposition that there had been inadequate consultation.
