Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has called the municipal corporations legislation as her “gift” to the nation as she approaches 40 years in politics.
The Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was passed on Wednesday night in the Lower House, following debate by members, including the Prime Minister and Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles.
The legislation was passed with amendments, with 27 votes for and 11 against and no abstentions.
