The family of Kaia Sealy has confirmed that the police shooting which killed her common-law husband, Joshua Samaroo, has left the 31-year-old woman paralysed and their five-year-old daughter “deprived in the most profound way of her parents’ care and normal life.”
In a statement issued on Thursday through their attorney, Fayola Sandy, the family responded sharply to the position taken by Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, who has defended the actions of the officers involved and said they would not be suspended but instead offered counselling.
“Ms Kaia Sealy remains under medical care after sustaining catastrophic injuries during the police shooting incident of 20 January 2026. Tragically, she has been left paralysed,” the statement said.
