AN ATTORNEY, acting on behalf of Kaia Sealy who was injured during an confrontation with police that left her common-law husband dead, has called for protection of the law and an investigation conducted with integrity and accountability.
Sealy’s attorney Fayola Sandy, in a letter yesterday, stated that she was not seeking to litigate through the media, but was writing as a response from Sealy’s relatives to the stance currently being adopted by Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro on the police shooting.
The shooting occurred on January 20 where it is alleged that police attempted to intercept a vehicle in Maloney. At the time the car was being driven by Sealy’s common-law husband, Joshua Samaroo, while Sealy sat in the front passenger seat. Police said they chased the car from Malone, with the chase ending at the corner of Bassie Street Extension and Dookiesingh Street, Spring Village, Valsayn, when Samaroo crashed into a shallow drain. The couple was then shot by police, with CCTV footage later emerging which showed that Samaroo appeared to have extended both his hands outside the car—but both he and Sealy were still shot.
