Police are investigating a report of fraud after a woman claimed she was duped out of $20,000 in an online land sale arrangement.
According to police, the 29-year-old woman responded to a Facebook advertisement offering land for sale and subsequently entered into discussions with a person who represented himself as a real estate agent. After several weeks of communication, the woman was taken to view a parcel of land in the Lopinot area and later indicated her intention to purchase the property.
Police said the woman was asked to make a down payment to secure the land and, on December 16, 2025, deposited $20,000 into a local bank account via online banking. However, after making the payment, she was unable to obtain a receipt for the transaction and repeated efforts to recover the money or receive confirmation of the sale were unsuccessful.
