TWO Carapichaima brothers who were wrongfully arrested and prosecuted after a late-night police raid on their home in 2019 have been awarded a combined $270,000 in damages by the High Court.
On Monday, High Court Master Rishma Ramrattan awarded Wafiq Khan and Siddiq Khan $60,000 each for false imprisonment and another $75,000 each after the State accepted liability in their civil suit. The awards include an uplift for aggravated damages because of the conditions under which they were held.
The brothers had sued the State following a police operation around 10 p.m., on November 8, 2019, during which about 20 officers in marked vehicles and tactical gear entered their Orange Field Road, Carapichaima home.
