PM stands by her words

PRIME Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has defended her Independence Day message on this country, saying King Charles doesn’t have the Beetham, Sea Lots and Laventille in their present condition—it is the People’s National Movement (PNM).

The Prime Minister issued two statements in observation of Independence Day which received criticism from some quarters, including the Opposition.

In her message to the nation, Persad-Bissessar said Trinidad and Tobago must take responsibility for the decisions made during its 64 years of Independence rather than continue blaming its colonial past. She argued that Britain left the country with a strong economy, institutions and infrastructure in 1962, but many countries that once lagged behind T&T have since surpassed it.
