Mickela: PM must stop dividing the country

Patriotic Labour Front Mickela Panday leader called upon Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to refrain from “promoting division and attempting to gaslight the country.” She said she should focus on unity the nation and not dividing the population since Independence Day belongs to everyone. She also said the United National Congress, which was led by the late Prime Minister/tade unionist Basdeo Panday, “stood for unity, inclusion and equality.”

In a release yesterday, she said: “The Prime Minister’s Independence Day messages are deeply disturbing. They expose a worrying pattern. Independence Day belongs to the entire nation. UNC supporters should not be used so conveniently as a political shield for what is ultimately about the Prime Minister’s leadership. They don’t deserve that. This divisive politics is the exact opposite of what the true UNC stood for.’

She added: “ There is also a glaring contradiction in the Prime Minister’s own words. She says we inherited a “very prosperous functioning country” at Independence, yet describes generations living on salt and rice, drinking from ponds and springs and sometimes eating one meal a day. Which version are we supposed to believe? Trinidad and Tobago deserves honesty, not whatever narrative is politically convenient.
