The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is set to begin urgent wastewater works today at the Nelson Street Housing Apartment Complex following reports of overflowing sewage.
In a statement issued Thursday, WASA said it responded to concerns raised by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and has mobilised its Wastewater Collection Section to address the issue. Works are scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m., a decision the Authority said was made to avoid disruption to students sitting the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) examination and related school activities nearby.
WASA explained that the wastewater system at the complex is outdated and susceptible to frequent blockages. These issues are often worsened by the improper disposal of debris into the system.
