Five masked and armed men executed a brazen robbery at a Chinese hardware store at Public Road, La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD), on Friday evening, carting off $23 million in cash. Based on reports received, the 29-year-old Chinese national and businessman told investigators that just after 18:00h on Friday, five masked males, four of whom were armed with firearms, gained entry into the premises by scaling the southern fence from the direction of the Demerara River.
They allegedly entered the building, held three Chinese nationals’ hostage and removed approximately $23 million in cash that was kept under a bed. After finding the cash, the suspects reportedly escaped through the southern section of a back fence. The police were contacted, and an investigation was launched. Detectives have since retrieved CCTV footage, which is being reviewed as investigations continue.
