(Kaieteur News) – A 54-year-old Golden Grove man is dead following a road accident on the Haslington Railway Embankment Road, East Coast Demerara, on Wednesday evening, police have confirmed.
Police say the accident occurred at around 17:20 hrs and involved a motor lorry owned by China Railway Construction, which was engaged in paving works on the southern carriageway at the time. The lorry was being driven by a 36-year-old Chinese national residing at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
According to preliminary investigations, the vehicle was reversing when pedestrian Shawn Gittens, an unemployed resident of Golden Grove, reportedly walked behind it and was struck.
