Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh is Trinidad and Tobago’s new Chief Justice.

However, his appointment, which came swiftly and unexpectedly yesterday, was not without controversy.

Acting President Wade Mark exercised his constitutional powers to appoint Boodoosingh to the top judicial position—minutes after the post became vacant at 2 p.m. following the retirement of former chief justice Ivor Archie.
