A former inmate of the Women’s Prison at Golden Grove, Arouca, has claimed she was turned into a “sex slave” behind bars.

Nadia Pooran has alleged years of sexual abuse, coercion and threats by a woman prison officer while enduring severe overcrowding, human waste, vermin, poor food, and inadequate medical care.

She had filed legal action against the State over the horrors endured in the Women’s Prison.
