Police are investigating the alleged kidnapping of a 40-year-old gardener from Malick, Barataria, who reportedly told his wife he was being held in Venezuela and that a ransom of $200,000 was being demanded for his release.
The missing man has been identified as Doodnath Khan of Fourth Street, Malick. He is a Guyanese national who resides in Trinidad. Around 5.30 a.m. on February 21, a 38-year-old woman of the same address, reported to the Barataria Police Station that she had received a live video call via WhatsApp at approximately 4.50 a.m. from her husband. During the call, Khan stated that he had been kidnapped earlier that morning and taken to Tucupita, Venezuela, before the call was disconnected.
She reported receiving a subsequent WhatsApp call from his phone during which he stated that his captors were demanding $200,000.
