(Kaieteur News) – The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) says it processed 1,658 consumer complaints between 2021 and 2025, with an average annual resolution rate of 87%, while consumers collectively benefitted from more than $178 million in credits and rebates resulting from the regulator’s intervention.
The Commission disclosed the figures in a response to a Kaieteur News editorial published on 17th September, titled “Consumers deserve more than advice.”
The editorial had questioned what happens after consumers bring complaints to the PUC and highlighted the need for consumers to see tangible results from the Commission’s regulatory role. In its response, the PUC said the complaints are investigated and resolved and that 83% of the complaints processed during the five-year period were resolved in favour of consumers.
