Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar wrote to acting President Wade Mark yesterday, confirming she agrees he should appoint a Chief Justice in accordance with the Constitution and that she had no preference as to whom he selects.
Following Mark’s appointment of Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh as Chief Justice, the Prime Minister extended congratulations, saying he has a legal career spanning more than three decades, defined by excellence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
Mark wrote to both the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader on Tuesday, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, following former chief justice Ivor Archie’s announcement that he would retire the next day, on October 22.
