(Kaieteur News) – The Development and Expansion Programme for Guyana Power and Light (GPL) 2026-2030 has revealed that, at the rate Guyana is expanding, 307 megawatts (MW) could be added to the grid from tracked Major Infrastructure Developments (MIDs), data centres, and the fertiliser plant.

The document explains that several large consumers are coming online, including data centres, MIDs such as hotels, airports and hospitals, and a natural gas-based fertiliser plant. The data centres are expected to add 200 MW in total by 2028, while the fertiliser plant is projected to add 10 MW by the same year.

“…77 tracked MIDs could add ~90 MW (~623 GWh/yr) by 2030. The new Wales Development Zone, located near the gas facility along the West Bank of Demerara, is expected to attract energy-intensive industries (e.g., refining, manufacturing, etc), potentially adding hundreds of MW within the next 5-years and beyond,” it added.
