(Kaieteur News) – Head of Executive Management for the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated (GPL) Kesh Nandlall on Sunday said that an additional 15 megawatts of power will be added by the grid from the powership.
Citing that due to El Nino, which Guyana is experiencing, record peak demand of 244MW and this will further increase as the weather gets hotter, GPL said the extended power outage citizens experienced on Sunday is due to maintenance work being carried out at the new Georgetown sub-station to facilitate the additional power that will be needed.
“We expect the peak demand to grow, and we are making preparations at the new Georgetown substation here to take off more power from the power ship and increase low power generation by about 15 megawatts from the power ship. Hence, we have to do some maintenance work and some change out of panels at the substation here at the New Georgetown substation,” Nandlall said.
