An injured otter is now under intensive care at the Emperor Valley Zoo after being rescued and treated for serious injuries.
In a statement yesterday, the zoo said the adult male neo-tropical otter was received on Monday after initially being treated by a private veterinarian. The animal was subsequently assessed by the zoo’s veterinary team and underwent further diagnostic testing, including radiographic imaging at the Trinidad Canine and Equine Veterinary Services on Tuesday.
According to the zoo, examinations revealed paralysis of the hindquarters along with a minor laceration to the left hind limb.
