Despite ongoing veterinary care at the Emperor Valley Zoo, the adult male neotropical otter has died.It was collected on April 27 with the assistance of game wardens, but even after supportive treatment, including a scheduled CT scan on Friday, the otter sadly passed away.
During its time at the zoo, it underwent further clinical assessment and diagnostic imaging.Examinations revealed paralysis of the hindquarters and a laceration to the left hind limb. While some early indicators suggested a guarded potential for recovery, the overall prognosis remained uncertain.
In keeping with established national reporting protocols, the matter was formally reported to the Forestry Division, and the carcass was transferred to the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of the West Indies for a full necropsy.
