CRIMINOLOGIST Dr Randy Seepersad says that citizens have been empowered following the passage of the Home Invasion (Self-Defence and Defence of Property) Bill, 2025.
The bill was debated and passed in the House of Representatives last Wednesday.
Seepersad told the Express yesterday the legislation gives “additional powers to citizens protecting themselves,” noting that, prior to the bill, citizens defending themselves often “run into serious problems in the test of self-defence,” which could result in murder or manslaughter charges if the legal threshold was not met. He said the bill “empowers citizens of the country” and congratulated the Government on its passage.
