Police in Port of Spain are probing whether three robberies committed yesterday along Independence Square and its immediate environs are connected, as the victims all described young, slim-built dark skinned men with cornrow hairstyles, and all three crimes occurred within metres of each other.
The first incident took place around 1.45 a.m. when a 20-year-old personal trainer was confronted at the Diego Martin taxi stand on Independence Square as he attempted to enter a red taxi. Two slim-built men, one wearing a red T-shirt, threatened to stab him if he resisted. They robbed him of his iPhone 15 Pro Max, cash and a gold chain before escaping on foot to the east.
Hours later, around 11.45 a.m., a 28-year-old woman was robbed of a gold chain and wedding ring while walking east along Independence Square North near Frederick Street. The suspect, described as a tall, dark-brown man in a white, red and blue jersey with cornrow hairstyle, snatched the jewellery then walked away eastwards before turning onto Henry Street.
