Kamla can’t be PM and CoP

WITH the Senate set to debate the Special Operations Bill this week, the Opposition is accusing the Prime Minister of putting Trinidad and Tobago in a “false choice” between accepting extraordinary policing powers and facing another state of emergency.

Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles said in a Facebook post yesterday that the country should not be forced to choose between security and its constitutional safeguards.

Beckles also questioned how Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar is certain that the Bill will pass without amendments when senators have yet to debate it. She said that raises serious questions about the Government’s respect for Parliament and, particularly, the Independent Bench.
