Two Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) residents on Friday pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and were fined $100,000 each or an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment.
Roderick George, 71, a teacher of Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, was arrested on August 3, 2026, for driving motor car DAM 2087 while his alcohol level exceeded the prescribed limit of consumption.
As such, he appeared before Magistrate Nekkisha Logan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him, to which he pleaded guilty.
