A 59-year-old man was seriously injured in Moruga on Saturday morning after being attacked with a chopper, but his life was saved in part thanks to the quick action of an off-duty police officer.
According to police reports, the victim was at Edward Trace Junction, Basse Terre, with his sister when a man known to the family as “Fingers,” approached him from the direction of Edward Trace. Witnesses said Fingers drew an object from his waist and began striking the victim with a chopper.
The victim’s sister guided him toward an oncoming black band maxi to escape. Off-duty Sgt Murrain, observing the attack, intervened by taking control of the chopper and arresting Fingers.
