INDEPENDENT Senator Michael Simon Victor de la Bastide, SC, says there is too much politics surrounding government’s proposed stand-your-ground legislation.
De la Bastide said politics must be set aside so the population can clearly understand whether this bill will work in their best interests or not.
He made these arguments during debate on the Home Invasion (Self-Defence and Defence of Property) Bill, 2025 in the Senate on December 2. De la Bastide supported the intention of the bill to clearly define home invasion as a crime and help protect law-abiding citizens against it.
