Driver dies, teen injured after car topples along Puruni trail

A 21-year-old man was on Monday evening killed while a teenager was left hospitalised following an accident along the 35 kilometre (km) Puruni Trail, Cuyuni-Mazaruni, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). The dead man has been identified as 21-year-old Anthony Allen of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica. At the time of the accident, the car was being driven by Allen with the teen as the other occupant. However, based on reports received, on the day in question at about 18:20h, the motorcar, PAR 6448, was proceeding along the Puruni Trail and was negotiating a right bend when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, thus causing it to topple several times before coming to a halt in a ditch.

The two men were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where Allen was pronounced dead. The teen was treated for his injuries and admitted to the hospital in a stable condition. Allen’s body is at the Bartica Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem. An investigation is underway. Only two days ago, 54-year-old Ronaldo Scalon and 50-year-old Rogerio Tolotti both Brazilian nationals were pronounced dead after the vehicle in which they were travelling in collided head-one with a minibus along the Mabura highway, Region 10.

It was reported that Scalon was at the time driving a Brazilian-registered 4×4 pickup and ended up in the wrong, thus coming into the path of the minibus thus resulting in a head-on collision. The driver of the mini-bus sustained multiple injuries to his body.
