A police constable was placed under close arrest following an incident involving a civilian on Monday at Policeman Corner, Westminster, West Bank Demerara (WBD). Based on reports, the 25-year-old civilian was standing along the roadway with several persons when a motor car reportedly approached the area and allegedly came close to colliding with his motorcycle. An exchange subsequently ensued, during which the 29-year-old police constable allegedly exited the vehicle, lifted his jersey, and held onto what appeared to be a firearm at his waist, causing the persons present to become fearful. Acting on information received, ranks intercepted the motor car and contacted the police constable. A search was conducted on his person, during which a toy gun was unearthed.
He was escorted to the La Parfaite Harmonie Police Station, where he was placed under close arrest as investigations continue.
