An adult female neotropical otter was rescued from a water well at a Barrackpore home on Friday and released into a branch of the Oropouche River.
Homeowner Dipnarine Ramlochan, of Rochard Douglas Road, said he was surprised to discover the animal in the water well.
Ramlochan said, “We temporarily named it Olivia and nicknamed it ‘Ollie’. I heard the otter moving around 8 a.m. in the catchment area near my property. It was the first time I saw something like this in our area. I was just concerned about its safety and startled at the same time. We reached out to the Hunters Search and Rescue team and were put on to game wardens who responded.”
