The ArchÂdioÂcese of Port of Spain has acÂknowlÂedged a Guardian MeÂdia reÂport reÂgardÂing a lawÂsuit filed by five men against St DoÂminic’s ChilÂdren’s Home and the State.
The men alÂlege they sufÂfered sexÂuÂal and physÂiÂcal abuse at the BelÂmont home decades ago. In their lawÂsuit, filed on OcÂtoÂber 8, they are suÂing the RoÂman Catholic ArchÂdioÂcese, the AtÂtorÂney GenÂerÂal, the StatuÂtoÂry AuÂthorÂiÂties SerÂvice ComÂmisÂsion, and a forÂmer emÂployÂee of the chilÂdren’s home who was latÂer charged with bugÂgery, atÂtemptÂed bugÂgery, and seÂriÂous inÂdeÂcenÂcy.
In a brief stateÂment, the ArchÂdioÂcese said matÂters of this naÂture reÂquire the utÂmost senÂsiÂtivÂiÂty. It added that, as the isÂsue is curÂrentÂly beÂfore the courts, it canÂnot ofÂfer furÂther comÂment at this time, but exÂpressed conÂfiÂdence in the juÂdiÂcial process to bring clarÂiÂty and jusÂtice.
