Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has disclosed that criminal charges are likely to be brought against individuals following an investigation into the Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency (PURE), which is being shut down after more than two decades of operations.
She also revealed that a separate investigation is under way into the expenditure of more than $750 million on just three miles of the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway Extension project under the former People’s National Movement (PNM) administration.
Persad-Bissessar said officials at the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) and the National Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (Nidco) would have to answer questions about the highway project.
