Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday accused the previous People’s National Movement (PNM) administration of using the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) as a “slush fund” to finance lavish lifestyles, declaring that the practice had ended under her Government.
“Today the Office of the Prime Minister is no longer a slush fund for the lavish lifestyles of those who treated themselves as emperors from 2016 to 2025,” Persad-Bissessar said during a sitting of the Standing Finance Committee.
She said taxpayers funded $19.2 million in official entertainment at the OPM between 2016 and 2025, as she criticised spending under the previous administration.
