Justice Minister Devesh Maharaj said the implementation of a probation system in Trinidad and Tobago will help ease overcrowding in the nation’s prisons and save millions.
He said it also offers offenders the opportunity to have a clean slate and have their court records sealed, enabling them to apply for jobs and visas.
He was speaking at yesterday’s Senate sitting during debate on a Bill entitled ‘An Act to amend the Probation of Offenders Act, Chap. 13:15 and for other related matters’.
