A Morvant man was critically injured on Tuesday night after he was struck by a car while pushing a wheelbarrow of grass across the Lady Young Road.
Police said around 8:30 p.m., 57-year-old Hainsley Simmons of Thompson Trace was moving recently cut grass across the roadway near Pitch Road when the accident occurred.
The 60-year-old driver told police he was heading north along the well-lit section of the roadway in his Nissan Tiida when Simmons, dressed in black, suddenly ran across the road pushing the wheelbarrow. The vehicle hit the victim, causing significant damage to the car’s left side and windscreen.
