Two people were killed and two others injured in a crash along the Uriah Butler Highway early Saturday.
Around 5:30 a.m., a Hyundai Elantra driven by 29-year-old Romel Villaruell of Don Miguel Road, El Socorro, was proceeding south when it was struck by an unidentified truck about 1,500 metres from the Munroe Road Flyover. Police said Villaruell lost control and the car veered off the highway, overturned in a bushy area, and came to rest near a drain.
Occupants McReya Ramdeen, 21, of El Socorro, and Ernest “Buju” Nurse of Jojo Lane, El Socorro, were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. A third passenger, Sudesh Pandoman, was injured and left to seek medical treatment. Villaruell suffered critical injuries and is warded at Mt Hope Hospital.
