Prime MinĀisĀter KamĀla PerĀsad-BissesĀsar has been named the 2025 PeoĀple's Choice winĀner at the Caribbean GlobĀal Awards (CGA), folĀlowĀing a pubĀlic vote that saw her seĀcure 3,850 votesāmore than any othĀer nomĀiĀnee in a field of 58 reĀgionĀal leadĀers.
The award, the onĀly CGA catĀeĀgoĀry deĀterĀmined enĀtireĀly by pubĀlic vote, was the subĀject of an acĀtive camĀpaign by memĀbers of PerĀsad-BissesĀsarās UnitĀed NaĀtionĀal ConĀgress (UNC). In the fiĀnal week of votĀing, UNC pubĀlic reĀlaĀtions ofĀfiĀcer Dr Kirk Meighoo urged the pubĀlic to supĀport her bid, notĀing in a May 25 FaceĀbook post that she was trailĀing in fifth place beĀhind St VinĀcent and the Grenadines Prime MinĀisĀter Ralph GonĀsalves, BarĀbaĀdos Prime MinĀisĀter Mia MotĀtĀley, Guyana PresĀiĀdent IrĀfaan Ali, and JaĀmaica Prime MinĀisĀter AnĀdrew HolĀness.
The reĀsult was auĀditĀed and valĀiĀdatĀed by an inĀdeĀpenĀdent panĀel of 15 judges and obĀservers from across the Caribbean and inĀterĀnaĀtionĀalĀly. OrĀganĀisĀers said the panĀel spent over five hours reĀviewĀing the process to enĀsure acĀcuĀraĀcy and transĀparenĀcy.
