The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) has confirmed the existence of a "protected list" of customers who were exempted from disconnection for outstanding electricity bills, saying the list was expanded between 2015 and 2025 to include government ministers, Members of Parliament and private companies.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Commission said the protected list was originally intended to prevent the disconnection of critical public institutions such as government ministries and departments, State enterprises, statutory authorities and foreign embassies.
However, T&TEC said that during the period 2015 to 2025, when the PNM was in office, the list was expanded.
