The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, T&TEC, has confirmed the existence of a special “protected list” that prevents certain customers from being disconnected for unpaid electricity bills.
In a statement, the Commission says the list was originally intended to protect critical public institutions, including government ministries, state enterprises, public authorities and foreign embassies. However, between 2015 and 2025, the list was expanded to include some government ministers, Members of Parliament and private sector companies.
