PUBLIC Utilities Minister Barry Padarath and Opposition MP Marvin Gonzales engaged in a war of words on Monday over who is under investigation and on the radar of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The drama unfolded during the Parliament’s Standing Finance Committee (SFC) examination of the supplementary allocation of $89.4 million to the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs.
Gonzales pressed Justice Minister Devesh Maharaj on whether the allocation of some $54.9 million for attorneys would be used for the State’s continuation of matters including the Piarco Airport case and another involving King’s Counsel Vincent Nelson, as he noted Maharaj had indicated the AG is committed to fighting white-collar crime.
