Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC says she remains focused on tackling the illegal drug trade, despite what she described as political attempts to target her during Saturday’s African Emancipation Day celebrations.

In a statement on Monday, Mrs Persad-Bissessar said she believed there were plans by political opponents and others to use the African Emancipation Day celebrations to attack her, but those efforts did not materialise because she did not attend the event.

“The PNM, the local drug mafia and their supporters grand political strategy to “curse Kamla” sadly for them flopped at Emancipation celebrations when I didn’t attend.”
