DIRECTOR of the Freedom Project, Shabaka Kambon, yesterday defended the Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad and Tobago (ESCTT) over the booing from sections of the audience at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Saturday after it was announced that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar would not be attending the African Emancipation Day celebrations.

Speaking to the Express after the incident, Persad-Bissessar said she had never committed to attending the event. She noted that she had attended African Emancipation celebrations in Port of Spain and San Fernando on Thursday and had spent Saturday with her family.

She added that she was sorry that those waiting to “insult and curse me were disappointed.”
